Kate, I'm not sure I would like to know I was living on an ex petrol station either So Clive, are we going to start a 'Speaker's Corner', sounds like it could be fun Dee x

Dee the B I think OC has a corner on boxes so maybe you and I can get together to produce some for the rest of us on these boards! (A week or so ago on Tips somebody got round to writing poetry about OC and I and our disagreements.) Clive

We've had a few close - including the one I always used to use on my way out of the village. It's really annoying as now I have to go out of way to get petrol. The site is up for sale for development - don;t htink I'd like to live above where pertol tamks used to be! kate

Hi Clive They have been building houses in villages round here where there have previously been pubs, and it is amazing how many they get on what looks like a small plot. Several of the old petrol station sites though are just derelict now, and an eyesore (when you find a soap box manufacturer can you let me know? I need one as well) Dee ;-)))

In our neck of the woods they are becoming blocks of flats. In our village we are laughing at the moment because the latest conversion is having huge problems selling the properties. We want our filling station back! Down with developers!! Public transport is almost non-existent and the shopping area is 2 1/2 miles away and there is no safe cycle way to get there! Give us back our filling station! We also need a soap box manufacturer! Clive

At least two or three have closed in Chelmsford in the last year or so.

It's a long time since I have been up there Brian, my son used to be at Uni there, he used to pop out and get breakfast from the petrol station at the weekend Dee xx

Yes, the one in the village closed years ago, now a car showroom. The next nearest one now has houses built on the site. I can travel from home to Mum's (40-odd miles on A & B roads) and pass only 3 petrol stations (and one of those NEVER has any diesel!)

That's annoying then Sheila, Some round here have turned into car valet places, but what use are they when you need petrol!!!!

Hi Ann I used to be able to fill up on the way home from college on a Thursday, ready for work on a Friday, now I will have to change my route to work to find a petrol station tomorrow Dee ;-((

No Dee, haven't noticed any closing near here. And actually the independent one in the village isonly about a penny (one pence) dearer than the supermarkets, except for T...o who have or had a promotion on this week, spend over £50 and get 5p off a litre. ann glos

yet another petrol station has been closed near me. Guess the supermarkets are taking all the business away from them. Have you noticed many closing in your area??
