(we have laws for everything else) can we have a law forbidding people to spray perfume and after shave on heavily. I have to avoid going through these departments in any store and this morning the man who came to read my meters nearly started off an attack when he entered my home - even after he left his aftershave lingered.

I am fortunate enough not to be asthmatic, Chris, but I can't go near shops that sell pot pourri, or I start wheezing, and, like you, avoid going through perfume departments in stores, as I'm likely to throw up!! Brut makes my eyes water and nose run - very useful when, in my teens it was THE smell for men to wear!! maggie

I was taught that perfumes etc. had to be discreet - only when one got fairly close did you smell it - not a waft as they walk by or even worse trapped in a lift with one'

LOL Chris ..with you all the way on this, hubby loved the fact my perfume was discreet .....I did say eventually why . Like you I can't go near perfume /smelly counters. Body shop was outlawed for me, infact loved Xmas as most shops were ..some one else had to go. My biggest night mare was lifts, nothing worse than going in one, the doors shutting, and finding it stinks .....and there is nothing you can do.I get some strange looks now when I walk into a lift and smell before the door shuts, mind they are even stranger when I refuse to get in !! Chris Perhaps you should take a leaf from the recent directive sent out by certain Councils, to tenants, telling them that they must not smoke in their own homes, for a minimum of two hours before that official visits. Issue letters to the various companies telling them you will fine them if they come into your home reeking of perfume. One man's perfume is another man's pong, and I often wonder just what the overpowering smell of aftershave/perfume is covering up? OC

Perfumes don't make me wheeze and sneeze; but, certain strong smelling ones trigger a migraine. :-((

My son although not an asthmatic does have a reaction to perfumes etc and avoids the perfume counters etc - but some years ago in a strange shop found himself on the edge of perfume/aftershave - young woman at the ready to spray him - he warned her loudly - 'At your peril and I mean it'. He said he did get some strange looks but he didn't care! It is Liverpool Council asking not to smoke and windows open - it is food for thought - if I were in Liverpool I should ask that no one calls wearing heavy perfumes etc.
