There was a BA flight diverted there too. 53 taxis and a coach made that journey today! newcastle taxi firms must have been rubbing their hands together!

I have today returned home from Paris (OH works there). Usually fly BA Aberdeen to Paris via Heathrow but that was getting me down with all the delays at heathrow so flew direct with Airfrance. Left Paris at 20.55 (Sunday) and the flight was due into Aberdeen at around 22.00. Half way through the flight the Captain said that visibility at Aberdeen was very poor and that we would probably divert to Edinburgh....arghhhh that meant a 2.5 hour drive on bus! Half an hour later they said we were about to land at Aberdeen....horray! Landing gear down and I swear we were feet from the ground when the aircraft suddenly started to climb sharply! Next announcement....we were going to Newcastle!!!! It wasn't Aberdeen he tried to land at but Edinburgh it seems. Landed at Newcastle, kept on the plane for re-fuelling, still possibility of going to Aberdeen depending on weather forecast. Onehour later, captain said we were staying at Newcastle. Get off plane, an hour to get through passports, another hour to get luggage all the while being told we would be put up in hotel overnight. Outside we were then told that there were no hotel rooms available due to a special event and that we were going to be put in taxis....what! to Aberdeen!!!! Stood in queue for 4 hours and finally got in a taxi at 3.30am with three strange men and the driver. I had to sit in the middle of the back seat (knees under my chin) holding on tight as the driver was taking the bends sharply then he said he needed petrol....urgently! By this time we were out of Newcastle in the middle of nowhere! Finally found some petrol just in time as car was starting to splutter. Arrived Aberdeen at 9am with two stiff shoulders as my two rear seat companions used me as a pillow! I want to go to bed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
