Oil Found In Berkshire

The largest oil field in Europe has been found underneath 90% of Berkshire. The oil field’s estimated size is thought to be able to produce 860m barrels per year worth an approximate £1.65bn. A Super Refinery is to be opened near Cross Street Pangbourne. The discovery of the reserve is the strangest in prospecting history, members of the North Berkshire allotment association were constructing a new drainage ditch when the oil strike was made. Many of the members were initially worried about their asparagus beds being ruined. As the oil continued to flow the members realised the cash windfall they were about to receive. The members of the association have decided that their wealth from the find should be extended to all people who own land over the oil field. The field covers the entire county of Berkshire except Pangbourne. The association members did initially feel bad about excluding the residents of Pangbourne. The chairman Phil Prospect commented “we initially did feel bad, but we got over it fairly quickly as we started spending the money. The fact that their local cricket team cheated so often means that they got what they deserve!”. A large refinery has just been given the green light in Pangbourne, there are some environmental issues to deal with in terms of smog and noise pollution and increased traffic. There is talk of a pipeline and but it will need to pass through Cross Street if it were to go ahead. Foundations of many houses of are looking precarious and subsidence is expected especially in Pangbourne as the oil is extracted. |
