My mother was illigitimate (sp) but I took my fathers name as they were married. You will also take your Dads name, I take it was only your mum who was born out of wedlock Uzzi

I assume that your legal surname is the one that you were registered with - unless it has since been changed by deed poll of course! I'm sure that your mother's marriage was legal. She wasn't intending to mislead cover up a former marriage, so I don't imagine their would have been a problem. Her stepfather's name was the name she was known by. :-))

my mother was illigitimate, but took on her stepfathers name when her mother got married. can anyone tell me ,because she used the stepfathers name on her own marriage certificate, is she still legally married? and , legally, is my surname my mothers registered bith surname, the assumed stepfathers name, or my fathers name??? one very mixed up pensioner!
