Worth a quick call, then if no joy try a letter, expalining how long you've banked with them. And how disappoint ed you are with the service you've received and how you're looking into taking your business elsewhere. You don't have to but it might help if they think they are going to lose your business. |

Shelli didnt think of that now let me see could move Mortgage, My account, joint account 3 childrens accounts, Investment accounts now seeing as how much business we give them think they could afford to not charge £35 |

Dawn LOL well that would be more trouble than its worth... but i always use that line, tho i only have two account and credit card with my bank......but you could try bluffing?????? LOL Which bank is it??? I've done it with HSBC and i usually get charges back. BUt that is bearing in mind I rarely get them and i rarely go over my limit ( i know yours wasn't your fault) so it might depend on how you've banked in the past. Good luck |

oooh forgot to say one abnk and can't recall which agreed that the charges was too high and theirs are now £12, which in my opinion is still too much just for refsuing a payment etc. But much better than the £35 you've been charged. |

Dawn sounds like my account we live on the over draft and just before pay day go VERY close to the line. And while we get interest cos we're in overdraftit's only a couple of pounds nothing major. But do try calling them they can only say no. BTW do youonly have an 0870 number for them or do you have a 'normal' number? Shell P.s I HATE Lloyds tbs. I moved from them yrs ago when the loan i had was covered by Insurance, so when i was made redundant I claimed. But as i'd been made redundant while pregnant, not because i was pregnant I might add. They said I couldn't seek work cos of pregnancy, so they wouldn't pay. What if I'd been hurt and couldn't work would they still have not paid????? I'm still paying that loan and the child i was pregnant with will be 15 this yr!!!!!!! |

I'm no defender of banks, far from it, but you normally have to allow four working days to elapse for a cheque to clear so that means today. Denis |

I was going to say that Denis, however £35 does sound a bit steep. I have a feeling I read somewhere that Lloyds TSB were putting up their charges. Think they are really only interested in dealing with large business accounts. I would challenge the charge by letter anyway. Caz, if the problem is with the TA has anyone contacted them and told them that because they have not paid out the money it is causing you financial problems and especially the fact that you may accrue bank charges? Surely they can't just owe you 4 months pay? Even the MOD can't do that! Ann Glos |

Dawn This is from the Martin Lewis site. Bank Charges: Reclaim them, they're unlawful, get up to six years' money back Your bank owes you money. This free guide includes template letters and calculators so you can join the thousands who've reclaimed £1000s. All penalty charges for exceeding your overdrafts, bounced direct debits and cheques are commonly believed to be unlawful. Also when I worked for a company and they failed to pay the salaries in on time they were responsible for compensation to the staff who had direct debits due. I wish you look. Pat |

Flippin banks are Bandits. All they're out to do is to take money off you regardless! Make sure you complain. Is it NW? They lost a cheque I paid in once, did they apologise or compensate me....NO!! |

Im pretty sure that most banks have a 'good will' policy, whereby, if its the first time you've been overdrawn, they will usually refund the charge. Im with lloyds tsb and they have done this for me before. I also worked for a bank for a short while and know that the manager usually refunded bank charges as long as it was the first time that it had happened, and/or if it was seen as a fault of the bank. My advice would be to give them a ring, explain the situation, and they should refund without a prob. |

If you are with Lloyds, are you not registered for internet banking? It's so useful, free and one of the most user-friendly systems around. All you have to do then is to click on 'Account detail' and you can instantly see whether you have sufficient cleared funds 'Available balance' to cover a payment going out. That way you can avoid extra charges. |

Aw Dawn, go get it sorted!! I don't know about all banks, but most count the first day as the day you paid in as long as it is before 12 midday, in which case the cheque should have cleared no probs! Get your 'I want my money back!' head on.....good luck! Nanna-Moo ;-) |

Caz, how dare they say it is not much of a problem when it is your (or graeme's) money you are owed. I would definitely get Graeme to complain. Try contacting SAAFA and see if they have anybody on the legal side who can help. Ann glos |
