Shirley, What alot of us don't understand is, that alot of the floods are not necesserily homes/businesses by rivers, or hilly places where the water may have run from. Alot of places are where you would Least expect. I was surprised about Meadowhall shopping centre, as the River Don is quite a way from there to my knowledge. LLx |

Lady L, that's exactly what I said to OH, as soon as the weather gets a bit hotter, we'll all be on hosepipe ban. I hope all of you effected by the floods stay well & take care of each other. I live in East Sussex and we have very good flood defenses where I am, plus where our house is it's quite high up. I feel awful for those that have had their homes wrecked. |

Hello Newbie, I hope you will be safe. It has been bad all over the country I know, with some places worse hit than others. As for the reservoirs..... My hubby walked dogs around a reservoir today, whilst I sat in car, because of my bad hip. I did manage to take a peep over the wall, and I have NEVER seen this particular reservoir like this... It was overflowing and running downhill like a waterfall. You watch!!! First bit of sunshine (if) and it will be hosepipe banns etc. LLx |

Thank You Gem, I know parts of Wakefield have been hit, and some surounding areas (Cas, Ponte etc). I hope you get sorted soon. I know that alot of people weren't insured, and people may say they were silly etc. I also know that there are alot of unemployed people live in these areas and can't afford insurance. I feel for everyone, insured or not, the mess they have to clean up is awful. By the way Gem, I have a Wakefield postcode, so not too far away, just been lucky I suppose. Take Care LLx |

Lol, they are good. We were affected by the floods, though not as bad as those in the Sheffield and Doncaster area. We only managed to get rid of the flood water on Wednesday, and I am praying that the rain that is expected tomorrow doesn't bring any more floods. We flooded twice in a fortnight and a lot of stuff is ruined, which can be replaced, but it is disheartening when you see the after effects of it all. Good jokes though LL. Gem:)))) |

Thank you Bev and Shirley, I know I like a laugh and a joke, but as I am from Yorkshire, and know how badly 'some' have been affected, there's no way I would take P personally. I am that soft, I would prob be one of first to offer my spare room. And, anyone who knows me would say same.x LLxx |

LL, good jokes, but as you have mentioned some have been effected, and like you I hope they are ok, it's good to laugh, so when things get so bad you can't take any more read these and have a giggle. Bev |

On a more serious note. Parts of Yorkshire have been hit very bad. As have other parts of the country. Hubby's day off today, and as I have spent almost all week in bed, due to a dodgy hip, I thought I would have a ride out with him. It's bad, thats all I can say. Hope no one on here as been too badly effected by floods. LLx |

A newcomer to Yorkshire arrives on a rainy day. He gets up the next day and it's raining. It also rains the day after that, and the day after that. He goes out to lunch and sees a young kid and asks out of despair, 'Hey kid, does it ever stop raining around here?' The kid says, 'How do I know? I'm only 6.' |

Typical British Weather? 'I can't believe it,' said the tourist. 'I've been here an entire week and it's done nothing but rain. When do you have summer here?' 'Well, that's hard to say,' replied the local. 'Last year, it was on a Wednesday.' |

Well, In view of all the rain we have all had and with no let up in sight I thought 'why not take a light hearted view of the situation'. |

One night, a torrential rain soaked Yorkshire the next morning the resulting floodwaters came up about 6 feet into most of the homes there. Mrs. Smith was sitting on her roof with her neighbour, Mrs. Brown waiting for help to come. Mrs. Brown noticed a lone baseball cap floating near the house. Then she saw it float far out into the front yard, then float all the way back to the house; it kept floating away from the house, then back in. Her curiosity got the best of her, so she asked Mrs. Smith 'Do you see that baseball cap floating away from the house, then back again?' Mrs. Smith said, 'Oh yes, that's my husband; I told him he was going to cut the grass today come Hell or high water!' LLx |
