Some bloke said on the news it shouldn't happen as it would just encourage women to have casual sex - the way to avoid Cervical Cancer is to stop sleeping around!! |

I heard that bloke too. If it was the other way around and the vaccination was for young boys would he have said that? Whoever he was he was displaying a great deal of ignorance. I think the vaccination should be compulsory. It won't stop youngsters sleeping around, nothing will. Its been happening for centuries (as most on here have found out at one point or another!) and it will continue to happen for centuries to come. Any form of protection we can provide for future generations is always a good idea. Carole |

It is avaiblable here privately through the doctor for $500. I was told that they are going to introduce it into the schools within a few years for girls over 11 as part of their innoculations?? Deb |

I object strongly to what that ignoramus said and want to know why it isn't being given to boys as well. It stops the virus that seems to cause cervial cancer - that virus is spread to women by men!! The way it's being reported it seems to be women who are at fault!! maggie |

I bought this subject to the boards about 6 months ago when i heard about it thru CRUK and the general consensus was its a good thing!! What men have to remember is Cancer cannot be caught thru casual sex - its in every single one of us and as it only kills females its an innoculation that is long overdue! thank you for bringing it to the boards again!! the more women that know their daughters can be innoculated against a killer is FABULOUS! xx |

I too think it's a brilliant idea. I was innoculated against German measles when I was 13 (1974), presumably because Rubella is so dangerous to the unborn child. I can't remember any of the girls in my class, or I, rushing off to have sex on the strength of it - so I doubt if an innoculation against cervical cancer will change anyone's behaviour for the worse. :-)) |

It is a brilliant thing, but unfortunately, I know from personal experience that a woman who has a positive test is branded a 'scarlet woman' - even by consultants!!! I had my first smear after the birth of my second child. After 12 years of 6 monthly 'positives' they decided to do a biopsy - luckily they found nothing. The consultant had me back for a 'chat' and blamed my lifestyle!! Pointed out to him that at the time of the first positive I had only ever slept with the father of my children, therefore it was my (by then - because of his filandering) ex's fault - perhaps he should have a word with him and all the women he had slept with! I was told to 'stop being hysterical' - no need to bother him etc!!! (patronising pr*t). .............And my doctor wonders why I am so reluctant to have another one!!! maggie |

I hope in this day and age doctors know that cancer is not an STD!!!!!!! its an evil disease that kills!! Sometimes its undetected............. as most of you know its what killed my Daddy, but we didn't know he had it until his post mortem! So lets do evreything we can to prevent its future! ss |

To be honest Pink I really think that most doctors do think that cancer is an STD (which in this day and age is disheartening) Once again, its a case of double standards. If it were boys in this situation then the ignorance and patronising wouldn't happen. This vaccine and more education is needed. Carole |

I heard when they began it in the USA it was being given to girls of eleven or so, those who were too young to be likely to be sexually active, but what I want to know is, if it supposedly gives the best protection before sexual activity, what is to stop someone my age - I'm 22 but not yet sexually active - from being given it too? From what I understood, they were aiming it at very young girls but I hope this won't lead them to ignore older girls and women who aren't sexually active on the assumption that it is 'too late' for them because they are 'probably' already having sex. |

it is aimed at 11 year olds as its presumed they aren't sexually active but if you are older and are still a virgin, you should contact your local CRUK outlet and ask for a referal! Lets start beating this disease NOW!! xx |
