they are nasty pieces of work, and apparently quite common around the uk.... We had loads of sighting (including one by myself) a few years back of a large black cat roaming the local countryside. Was walking my dog when i looked across a field and there was this big black thing sloping across the fields away from me. went and reported it immediatly. another time a week later i was walking the dog and there was this loud roaring from up ahead, i turned and legged it home, wouldnt walk my dog up their for months

When sister lived in Abbotsford they lost one of their cats to a couger. It was terrorising the area catching any cat it could. She was heartbroken to lose him and his sister pined for weeks and kept trying to get out to find him ,and she was normally an indoor cat. Altho they have now moved to Chillywack ,they dont let her out all now not even onto to the back porch as they are scared she might go walkabout and suffer the same fate. Shirley

Hi Shirley. We have a problem with cayotes in our area. Our cat has never been out of the house because we don't want him to be a meal for one. I don't know how many of my friends outdoor cats have gone missing this way. Cougars aren't seen too much in our neighbourhood, but they are out there. We live about 45 mins away from Abbotsford. Hi Deb. BIl worked at Vancouver Airport until recently ,he just been made redundant for the second time. After the first time 2 years ago they decided to downsize sooner rather than later and sold their house at Abbotsford and bought a new build in Chilliwack. Just as they moved in BIL was called back to work so they wondered if they had done the right thing but hes just been laid off for good so they are glad they did downsize, Sis still works but BIL is looking at taking any job just to tide them over . they are both in their late fifties so its not easy to retrain but at least they bought this house outright so that take a lot of pressure off. Hi Carol, You have me puzzled now. I have always thought that cougars are tan coloured, now I'm wondering if they come in different colours? I'll have a 'google' and see what I come up with. Deb

Deb Vancouver (18665) Report 21 Jun 2007 01:51

Although there have been several cougar taken in British Columbia weighing between 190 and 210 pounds, the average adult male weighs about 125 pounds and the female 100 pounds. Large adult males may measure 9 feet in length, including a 30-inch tail. The fur is short and, in British Columbia, ranges in colour from reddish-brown to a grey-brown, with light underparts. Very young kittens are spotted, with ringed tails; this coloration is gradually lost as young cougar reach adulthood. Adults are unmarked. Black cougar have been reported from South America and one was reported several years ago in the North Okanagan area, while white or very light-coloured cougar are infrequently reported. The cougar is found only in the Western Hemisphere,

I would also have said 'was'. Perhaps our grammar is different from yours. ps I am in New Zealand, and I consider myself well educated.
