I am in Canada and recieved my Cpp at 60 yrs-all $17.00-that's what I got for having 6 children, and only making 3 payments before I quit work to raise my children! I now get $27.oo (cost of living) I turned 65 in May and get my 1st OAS cheque in the amt of app: $460.00 , in a few days-wonder if the senior card will come-nothing as yet. Our pensions are given tax free, so of course it is all income. That means owing taxes. My husband has $200.00 coming off his CPP for taxes, but it isn't enough! Being on pension really sucks! Hi everyone, Yes as I said I will be 60 later this year too. Phoned pension line but they can't say how much pension I will receive as also have pension from employer as well, what I called superannuation. Anyone know how much pension we get?? Taking it that we worked the required amount of years, however many that is!! Betty

Here in New Zealand the Govt raised the age for getting superannuation to 65. We must be a much younger bunch than you poms. Some people think it should be raised to 70. But think of all the young people who will not be able to get a job because all the oldies are still working. We allegedly get 65% of the average wage, but that is a couple getting 65% of the average wage for one person, and then it is taxed, so each one of a couple gets 32.5% of the average wage and pays tax on it. A single oldie gets something over 65% I think. We can get a reduction on bus and train fares, at least in the Auckland area, and some other outfits have discounts for oldies. But it pays to have some savings. We often have to draw on them to pay insurance, rates and other big bills.
