Thinking of installing a sky tunnel in a kitchen thats like the black hole of Calcutta. Has anyone got one and are they really a effective as they say?

do you mean a sky light ie window?? If so, we put one in our kitchen as it was a bit dark. My OH put it in. I wouldn't be without it. It lets in loads of light and we get a lovely breeze when it's opened. You'll save a lot of dosh if your OH or someone you know can do it for you.

Its not quite like a skylight, it dosen't open. You apparently make a hole in the slates of your roof and put in glass which is attached to a flexible tube to another piece of glass in your ceiling. Then the natural light shines through. Its easier to fit than a skylight so they say and as we are not using the roof space we don't need a proper window in there. I think they're fairly knew only learnt about them a few weeks ago

Yes that must be right Chris. We don't know whether to fit one of those or a proper roof window. One is cheaper than the other but is harder to fit and my husband thought he might be able to fit a sky tunnel himself. Wish I'd seen the article

Oh I know what you mean durh!! A friend of mine has one on her landing ceiling. It lets in some light but not a vast amount. I think it looks more like a feature as opposed to something that really serves as letting light in.
