The original 'jacks' aka knucklebones were real bones. I can remember my younger sister having some plastic pick-up sticks about 1952. And a hula hoop. Sorry, although I am older than most of you (71) I cant remember when plastic toys came in. I was probably getting too old for toys by then!

I was ''only'' born in '68! I'm sure I must have been about 7/8 playing with my metal/wooden toys!

I remember the first plastic being Bakelite, which was brittle, and I remember buying mine plastic toys and telephones and bricks from Mothercare from 1972 on.....and the plastic was good and in many colours......My jacks were metal too, and that would have been 1956... ...I should imagine it would be late 50's or early 60's that plastics as we know them came into being......but perhaps someone is more knowledgable than me.....

We bought some ''pick up sticks'' & ''jacks'' today & they were plastic/rubber!! My jacks were metal & my sticks were wooden with coloured stripes! When did it all change? Penny *feeling old*

my dad had a post office van whose shell was made out of plastic. That was in the 50s.
