Hal, Apparently the lightening ran along the telephone line and then along the wire inside the house. (computer was turned off and unplugged.) I saw it hit the TV aerial next door but one and then a great ball of light ran down to earth. It also struck the pole all our telephone lines come from. The noise was horrendous. Next door lost their phone (blew the boxes in their lounge) but not their internet lead. Jay

Janet, a lot depends on the type of 'Fuse Box' you have in your home, its best to get the 'Trip Switch Fuses'any slight surge, even if a light bulb goes the appropriate fuse trips out right away. Hal.

We had a simular prob last year and lost a telly. went out next day and bought a surge tower from argos that also lets us connect moden and router to it aswell as printer etc sam x

Anti-surge cables don't protect your modem. A terrible storm here 12 months ago wiped out practically everyone's internet connection, half the telphones and blew 2 televisions. I was without the internet for 3 weeks - lightening had blown the modem. Disconnect modem during storms. Jay
