Hi Val I must admit I hadn't thought if she would have been asked permission for it to be used, but the state she was in I doubt she would really have realised what she was agreeing to Dee xx

Dee I didn't see that picture but I agree ---the poor thing no dignity --just to sell a newspaper!!!!

Huia It was an unusual event and big one, (4.3 on Richter scale) for UK..... but you have your own rumblings over there quite probably that don't get reported much here. Gwyn

Gwyn in Kent

The only way to stop this kind of reporting is to stop buying the papers but it won't happen. Helen

Hi Dee I haven't seen the papers or the news but I totally agree with you. All the media are interested in is getting the best story/picture they can and to hell with how the person feels about it. Juliexx

There seem to be very few photos in the papers, which I guess is a relief really, but this lady will be the image that will always be remembered by people I'm glad others feel the same, cheap sensationalism, that's all it is really Dee x

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 29 Apr 2007 09:26

Dee I haven't seen any papers yet but I agree that is really insensitive. Neighbours near here were out the front in dressing gowns to see what had happened but were well covered..... and no photographers as there was no obvious damage to see. I wiil probably buy a paper today to keep for my grandson but I will not be looking for distressful pictures like that but maybe there will be one that includes a photo of my firefighter son :) Gwyn

Dee no you are not the only one who feels this way. I often see news footage and think how can they film people in their darkest times and show the whole world this persons agony and suffering, show the area involved yes but not the people who are scared and vunerable. At the end of the day all they care about is getting their story out no matter who gets hurt in the process. Jax xx

Who was shocked and dismayed to see the elderly lady, in just her nightdress, being helped from the scene of yesterday’s earthquake? BUT what annoys me the most is the crass insensitivity of the press to blazon this image across the pages of the Sunday papers If it was my relative I would be most angry, and if I woke this morning to see myself thus portrayed I would be mortified Perhaps the guys from the emergency services who were escorting her from the scene should have put the journalists camera where the sun don’t shine
