may sound daft but how do you get rid of flys? due to the kids knicking the lid from my bin and the council emptying once a fortnight, my bin is full of flys and every time i open the window i get them coming in. i have tried fly spray and its not worked. |

Try sprinkling the bin with Dustbin powder and putting something as a lid on it. and leaving it sealed for a couple of days. aternatively any fly spray but you do need to cover the bin. Shirley |

Have you asked the council for a new bin? Tell them it was kids, not your doing, and is now a health hazzard, but you will probably have to keep on at them. But as Shirley said, put something over the top to act like a lid for the time being. Good luck Kim |

Shirley you just cannot go through the summer with a broken bin with no lid!! It will not mater what you do to stop the flies....it isn't going to work. phone the council and ask for a new one. if they refuse and they may well do (unless you pay for a new one £45(?)) Call in the environment officer....I would love to hear his/her reasons why you can't have a fully finctional bin! Deanna X |

we have an ordinary dustbin, the council supplies black bags for the rubbish, but in the summer the bin can still get a bit whiffy and even with the lid on you can open it and get flys whooshing out. I pour very hot water in it with some washing up liquid in it and do a swill around and then a scrub .i do use rubber gloves.! After that i rinse it out and dry it whith kitchen towel and dust it with Dustbin Powder. it seems to do the trick Shirley |

Oh yes I have seen that on the TV. Councils who think a small bin and a few plackie bags will do for a two weekly lift!!! Sorry but that is just not healthy. You are doing all you can, but they are not helping you! You should all stand up and complain. After all...it is not a FREE SERVICE they are giving you. You pay for this. Deanna X |
