Peter, That can't be it - the person who was sent a message in my name has never been in my contacts and we have no tree connections at all Gwynne |

Gwynne Check, or get the other person to check the message dates. It could be that your contact is actually looking at an old message which has reappeared in her contacts. You can't see it because you deleted it from your sent messages ages ago. This had me fooled for a while. |

Thanks, Peter, I've checked now. Any idea how the mail came to be sent that I didn't send? Gwynne |

Gwynne The bug is that old contacts you think you have previously deleted reappear for some reason. The other thing to watch is that if you had previously let someone see your tree, but did not remove the permission, but simple deleted the contact, the permission is still set. This threw a lot of people into believing that permissions were being set by Divine Intervention. When the contact reappeared they were able to see your tree once again, or vice-versa |

Hi Peter, Then how come someone got a mail from me that I didn't send? It isn't in my sent messages. Another thing, my friend on another site asked why I had suddenly appeared in her contacts when we had both cleared each other months ago. Derek, I hope no one except me or GR can delete messages - but who can say? If messages are going from me that I didn't send, anything is possible Gwynne |

These message are appearing because people are experimenting with the site and pressing the little buttons which automatically send the message - I have done it too.....and also received about ten from other people. There have been numerous threads on the subject over the past month. |

Ok ladies, I can understand the points you make, but have you any inkling as to how anyone can bug our mailing system. Or for the matter of WHY! Gwynne, other than yourself and GR, can anyone else cancel/erase your thread? Derek |

Hi Guys I got this message the other day, I haven't responded to it because I not sure why this person is asking me for help when I am a fairly new to all this and haven't even ordered any certs yet! All my info has come from my aunt and 2-3 connections on GR with their permission, I am looking to start backing stuff up at the end of the month: Dear Angelic (?) I am new both with computers AND family history. I have a tree on Genes, but I also have a more detailed one on my Family Tree Maker as well as a carefully handwritten large sheet of REAST's back to 1695. Many wives and offspring included. Any ideas how to get at least the ones on computer onto Genes United.? It may help many people IF it can be done and also be more useful than my present brief Genes tree. Regards and Thanks in anticipation Remember - I'm a novice ! Harold Reast I don't know what to make of it, if Harold reads this message can I ask why are you asking me for help? there are far more experienced people on Genes who can help you and to be honest I don't really know what you are going on about! Alaina |

Hmmmmmmm I just looked for my thread on the subject and GR seem to have deleted it. I'm fairly sure no one reported it to abuse so why would they do that? Gwynne |

I contacted GR last week about exactly the same thing. They say they are having trouble finding the bug because they cannot replicate it. Not good enough as far as I am concerned. I've had 2 mails saying their trees are open from people with no connection and a mail has been sent from me to someone else asking to see their tree - I didn't send it. I'm very concerned/annoyed about it Gwynne |

I'd reply saying you'd opened her tree and can't quite see the connecton - could she be more specific. - don't open your tree. Deny any inkling that you may be related!! My uncle, who, admittedly, I don't like, has 4 people on his tree - him, his parents and 1 grandparent. I know he wants info, but I haven't spent 15 years, a lot of time, effort & money etc for him to 'pinch' the tree. I am more than willing to help him, but as he lives failry close, is retired etc I feel he ought to make some sort of effort!!! (apologising to my mum would be a help to!!!) maggie |

G'morning ladies and the occasional gent, can you please help with my making a decision about a message appearing in my GR inbox saying my tree is open, can I see yours? I sense a prob, because my family tree on GR is never updated and the mail received is allegedly from a cousin in NZ. Upon opening her tree, only her name, no one else. Is it possible to find the orignator of the inbox mail, could it come from someone else? Very odd. Have a good day, folks, Derek in France |
