Well what a discovery, sad really that lies were told which kept your grandad from growing up with his father around, allbeit with a different family to know. There are so many things not talked about in my o.h's family, what his mum died of, and many others that his son's and ex wife know nothing of, such secrecy and some deceit. I think it is awful. I didn't realise that o.h.s boys did not know their mother had been married before she married their father, there were no children and she was seperated when she met o.h. but why keep it a secret. Then my son's father and stepmother not telling their son, 10 yrs and 4 days younger than my boy, that he has a brother, have told him we are family friends, why? |

I am sure there will be mixed emotions but I hope you all have a pleasant time. Wish I could get a gathering for my mum. I am in constant touch with her half siblings that she knew nothing about and now she is 80 she cant accept it. Shame they are spread out all over the world. Was hoping one would visit this year from New Zealand but her plans have changed so dont know if or when I will get to meet any of them. |

Can't wait to meet her, I wish my grandad was alive to tell or to ask him how he feels about it all. Grandad's half sister who we are meeting remembers that as a little girl hearing whispered conversations between her parents about a boy, she says at the time she was confused and wondered who they meant but never asked them - now she realises it must have been my grandad who was the boy they kept referring to. I will let you all know how it goes and how many tears are shed |

So pleased for you Maddie. Well done for your hard work. What a shock for you discovering that information and so sad that your Grandad wasn't told the truth all those years. My own Dad wasn't given much info. about his parents either, why must life, for some, have so many secrets. Enjoy your family meeting. Mau xx |

One of the reasons I joined GR was to find out more about my great grandad who died ( so we were told ) in the first world war. Even his son ( my grandad ) was told this. After a year of searching for his death, I came across his naval record which proved he hadn't died, but I couldn't trace him after the last date on the record which was 1921. That is until late last year when I had a PM on here from a gentleman who claimed to be the grandson of my great grandad. For months we swapped info, certs and finally pictures which proved without doubt that we ahd the same man. My great grandad didn't die in the first world war!! He was alive and kicking 5 mins away from us with his second family until 1972 when he finally passed. Well tomorrow I'm going to met my grandad's half sister - who he never met or knew about and I'm taking my Dad to meet his new Auntie!! No doubt it will be quiet emotional I just wanted to share this with you all - never give up the hunt as you never know what you will find, |
