You could try putting his food bowl over the spot or lemons and oranges. Cats are supposed to hate citrus. Are his litter boxes in a room he frequents? If they're out of the way somewhere he might not want to make the effort to use them. Might be worth keeping his food bowl a few yards away. That way he'll remember to use them because he'll be in the vicinity to eat. Rose |

If you use bi-carb sprinkled over affected area, this will absorb the smell of cat pee. Our cat lived for 18yrs and became incontinent due to arthritis in his joints. I don't think you'll be able to stop him if he's developed the habit of peeing indoors. Definately place litter trays around for him to use and to prevent your carpets from being ruined but incourage the other younger cats to go pee outside. Deb:) |

Mc Anne, you could try sprinkling on some bicarbonate of soda...its a de-odourizer. Sprinkle on, wait a while then hoover. Might work. Clare x |

When my daughter's 14 yr old male tabby did that, the Vet told me to buy washin soap with enzymes in it, at the pet sop! Vinigar and bleach are acids, and just attract the cat back to the same spot! CeeCee |

Anne, bicarbonate of soda dissolved in tepid water, well dissolve in hot water and allow to cool or add cold, when dissolved will help remove odour. |

I can't offer any solutions I'm afraid, but I have a similar problem with my 15 year old female cat. She keeps peeing on the front doormat. But she doesn't do it when she's trapped and can't get to the cat flap in the back door, only when the kitchen door and/or the back door is open and she could easily go outside. I have a laminate floor in the hall and luckily have washable doormats, so it's not as bad as your problem with the carpet smelling. I can smell it now. Just looked and she's done it again!!! Back when I've dealt with it.........again :o( Sue xx |

Hi Anne Washing the area with a solution of biological washing powder may do the trick - it's worked for us on carpets, textiles etc to get rid of the smell, and also puts the cat off the area Hope puss is ok now Sharon x |

Had my eldest cat (17) to the vet last week after a bout of persistent peeing in doors. Diagnosed with some moderate kidney disease and cystitis - both of which have/are being treated. Also have a Feliway difusser plugged in near the spot most favoured for peeing - corner near front door - which apparently seems to have been a favourite spot for a while :O( However - he although he has improved - he is still peeing in this one corner!! I even tried putting tin foil over the carpet - which he hates and cats generally are supposed to hate - and just caught him once again settling into that familiar squatting position!! So - I need ............. a) recommendations what to scrub the carpet with to get rid of the smell b) also would putting a litter tray in that corner help ?? i have no doubt he (and the others probably) will use it - but will it stop him peeing near there or elsewhere?? He is the oldest a cat that has lived in our family so I am unfamiliar with these kind of problems. Many thanks xx |
