I first made one in a school cookery class.....soooo many years ago. I haven't made one for ages either. What do you put on the fruit? .. I think we used golden syrup at school ( pre counting calorie days, ) Gwyn |

So did I, Gwyn and have kept recipe. You put pineapples on the bottom of tin , cream brown sugar and marg to give a glaze , then sponge mixture on top. Ros |

Custard would be great thanks, not the same here even though it says Custard Powder on the box. Although after two house moves I seem to have mislaid my box!! Rosalind |

Ros ...Brown sugar and marg....I hadn't heard of that variation. I was thinking of drizzling a little honey on the fruit. Must get some more eggs tomorrow and give it a try. Gwyn |

Here`s recipe for everyone 1 large tin pineapples Cherries 1 1/2 oz butter or marg 2oz brown sugar that is the bottom Drain juice from pineapples, cream fat and sugar together and press into bottom of greased cake tin or medium sized casserole,place pineapples on top and up sides-half them and put cherries in rings For top 3 oz marg 4ozs self raising flour 3ozs caster sugar 2 eggs 1/2 teasp vanill essence 1-2 teasp warm water Cream fat and sugar, add eggs one at a time, add flour , water and vanilla. Turn into prepared tin and cook for 35-45 if shallow tin , or 50-60 in deep one--temp 375 or no 5 gas ENJOY Ros |

Had to make the custard with brown sugar as ran out of white -it was like caramel custard! Ros |
