What are they?

They're an Eastern European thing. They look a bit like a spring roll from the chinese restaurant when they're finished, but they can be bite-sized or 'need-a-knife-and-fork'-sized and they're made from filo pastry with a filing of a ground beef and spices mixture or a 4-cheese mixture. They're very tasty, but time-consuming and fiddly to make so I only get them on special occasions.

Yes, Carol, he does. I couldn't help but smile when I saw his comment, given that the subject was being discussed earlier. He wasn't intending to be hurtful though, so I took things in the spirit in which they were clearly meant. It's been an interesting evening. :-)
