The manufacturers of Welsh Dragon Sausages have been warned by Trading Standards chiefs that they could face legal action - for making shoppers think it uses meat from real dragons! Aileen xx |

Black Mountains Smokery at Crickhowell in the Welsh mountains make 200,000 a year and have been told they must include the word 'pork' in the name. A spokesperson said that they use the word dragon because it is synonymous with Wales. Powys CC Trading Standards Dept 'swooped' after being tipped off that the sausages were in breach of the 1996 Food Labelling Act. An analysis apparently proved there was no dragon in them. A council spokeman said 'The name Welsh Dragon Sausage was not sufficiently precise to inform a purchaser of the true nature of the food.' 'I don't think anyone would imagine that dragon meat was being used, but we would not want vegetarians to buy the sausages believing they were meat free'. As a vegetarian, I think I would recognise meat sausages. However a little comment, not suitable for vegetarians may be the answer. |
