Christmas Recipes. Surely you don't all buy ready

I'm always looking for something different to try out on the family. If you have any tasty recipes for around Christmas leave them here and I'm be back to pick them up. Husband is on a diet so any really good low cal recipes would be great as I want to make him something tasty too. Thank you!! Fiona. x |

A new angle on sprouts--got this one from GMTV a few years ago! Prepare sprouts as normal, then dunk in boiling water for a minute to seal. When cool wrap each sprout in smoky streeky bacon (or veggie substitute) sqewer (can't spell that one lol) with half a cocktail stick. Tightly pack into a shallow pirex or oven dish/tin that has been lightly buttered. season and scatter with a few small knobs of butter. Cover in silverfoil and freeze until Xmas day (I don't know why but they are better frozen about a week before) On christmas morning pop them in the oven for 20 minutes then uncover and put em back in until bacon crispy--yummy They're even nicer if you sprinkle with shredded chestnuts as well Carol |

Grated cabbage-absolutely devine. Cook the carrots in the stock whilst cooking the meat, leave them whole and cook slowly-lush. add a spoonful of mustard to the gravy-but do not tell those who do not like mustard-they will never guess glaze your roasted parsnips with honey cook meat in a little water and steam it in the oven for low fat meal ENJOY |

Finely chop peppers, all colours, spring onions, a few apples and cook in vinegar and sugar, for a lush christmas chutney. |

Not a low fat option, but grated cheese in the pots is lovely, for low fat option grated onion. |

I hate to admit this on a public forum ........ but Christmas Day is the one time in the whole year that I take charge in the kitchen, (call it a 'man' thing). And I am somewhat tempted by Awdrey's recipe for the 'roots'. But can I ask just two questions ......... and please forgive my once a year naivety. How long do I cook them, and at what temp ? L |

We're not keen on sprouts so we have roasted butternut squash. I cut it into chunks with the skin off then drizzle olive oil over it and season it with salt and pepper plus a little mild chilli pepper and a sprinkle of mixed spice. This is yummy. Sometimes I do mixed roasted veg with a roast dinner.......I mix up par-boiled potatoes, chunks of carrot, pieces of parsnip and swede, onion and squash then roast the whole lot at once. Very easy and does loads of vegetables all at once. If you want lots of low fat recipes I suggest you try googling low fat+prunes. It sounds odd but using mashed prunes as a substitute for fat really works and you can't tell it was prunes. Sue |

If anyone has Delia's Christmas book, I can recommend the following:- Tiny cheese, onion & olive scones Dundee cake Cranberry relish Christmas chutney All easy to make - I make loads of the scones and freeze them, they disappear in minutes! |
