Hi All Did anybody use the free CD that came with the Independent newspaper in September. I did, and loaded a trimmed down version of FTM2006. It's worked very well, so I thought I might as well pay out £19.99 to get the full programme. It came today. With great excitement I loaded it on to the computer where it promptly overwrote the free programme with FTM2005. That left the free programme inoperable :-(( Fortunately, OH thought I could rewind my computer which I have done, and the free version is now working again. I went on to the Global Software Publishing website, and they are advertising the 'new' version at nearly £40. Rip off I think as I've seen it for £16 which includes the free charting software as well. I have emailed them to express my displeasure (that's being nice), and am now waiting to see what sort of reply I get. Watch this space as they say. PP xx |

Pauline I use a version of FTM2006 which came free with Your Family Tree mag a year ago. What do you get extra with the 'paid-for' versions, as I find the one I've got good enough for my purposes? Angela |

Hi Angela There were a lot of options greyed out on the freebie such as the different reports, style of trees etc. Also there was no option to be able to export as a Gedcom file. Pauline |

Thanks Pauline I can see myself shelling out at some point. Does that mean I'd have to put all the info up again on a new program? (You can see how computer-literate I am!) :-) Angela |
