Aromatherapy - anyone had a reaction?

Been very stressed lately - lots going on at home, at work and in the family so decided to try an aromatherapy massage to relax me. Very nice at the time, but as soon as I got out of there I felt many more times as stressed than when I went in, went home had a row with Mr Medlock and a good cry and now 24 hours later that's still all I want to do. Don't understand what's going on. Has anybody else had a similar reaction or am I finally losing the plot? Any thoughts anyone? Sheila

It's an ongoing process. One session won't sort out all your ills I'm afraid, which is why so many people dismiss it.

Sheila honey, don't panic ((hug)) It's what's known in complementary therapy terms as a 'healing crisis' and your aromatherapist should have explained it to you before you left *tsk... bad person* Sometimes when we're very stressed out and we go and have a therapy like this, it serves to release all the pent up stress an emotion we've been carting about with us, and it's possible to feel a helluva lot worse before feeling very much better. I promise you it will pass. Then best thing you can do to help yourself is to drink plenty of water as it'll help flush out toxins which have been shifted in your body, and carry the energy to where it's needed. Rest as much as you can, and if you feel the need to cry then have a good old sob.... it's better out than in, and you'll soon be feeling a million dollars. If you do decide to go for anothr aromatherapy session, make sure you mention it to your therapist ... a) so she can use a more dilute blend b) possibly different oils would have been more suited to you c) that she's there for you to call on if you need her reassurance if it happened again. Please don't let it put you off. Hope you're feeling all chilled out and happy again soon ((hugs)) XXX Sioux

Sioux Thanks for that. I am familiar with the concept of a healing crisis as my husband is also a complementary therapist, but we both missed it this time! I certainly hadn't expected that somethng as gentle as aromatherapy could do it - I associate it more with the massage techniques my husband uses in his practice, which are much harder. He spoke to the aromatherapist yesterday and she said she had no idea what was going on with me...so I won't be going there again! Feeling a bit better today but all joints still aching. Onwards and upwards Sheila
