hi hun,thats really interesting,my middle son had learning difficulties,and the school were useless.the first 2 schools he atteneded were good,but when he went to his last school,they were useless.this might explain alot.hes now 25,with a daughter he adores.and hes turned out lovely.hugs xxxxxxxxxxxxjoy

Caz, My tutors use a 4 learning style modle by Honey and Mumford (1986). We were all given a quiz to find out id we were Activists, Reflectors, Theorists or Pragmatists. I came out as a Theorist with very strong Reflector and Pragmatist tendencies, which fits in with me being mathmatical and scientific in my ways and also with my dyslexia as I learn by doing.

I agreechange the method & find that suddenly a light comes on & the child begins to understand what you are talking about. We have been trying to get a group of 3yr olds to carry on a rhyming chain, for several weeks. Nursery rhymes & poems have not helped. Last week I gathered up a bag of things that rhymed & printed rhyming pictures. Put them on the table & sat back to see what happened. Suddenly one little boy said' Hair - chair - bear, they sound the same' his very own Eureka. That led to others joining in. Now I have a group of 3yr olds who can carry on a rhyming chain,some of the words are not in any dictionary but they rhyme!!

Gwyneth I too am attending a day course on dyslexia as part of my work but I will you it to help my little lad, Jeanette as far as i've learnt it is a tactile and sensory way of learning, Its very intriguing to learn about and we all had a test to see our learning styles, I am visual and like to write everything and use repetition and use notes, caz xxx

Caz I remember attending a day course on dyslexia several years ago. One speaker's main point was... .....If they don't learn in the way in which you teach, teach them in the way in which they will learn. Thank goodness that many children will now hopefully have a chance to reach their full potential. Gwyn

Many of you will probably know this but in my teaching course we are learning about the 3 ways of learning, Visual are about 48%, Audio about 46% and kinaesthetic about 6% though these overlap, It has opened my eyes to the fact that some who were classed as ' stupid ' at school actually needed to learn in a different way, for exampl my 7 year old dyslexic is probably kinaesthetic, Caz xxxxx
