We collect bits and pieces through the year, eg. 2 for the price of 1 coloured pencils etc. ready for shoeboxes. I phoned to ask re. collection date and was told that this year's boxes for our local-based charity will be going to the Ukraine. The organiser will travel to help with the distribution, as in other years. One year we had a lovely thank-you card from the child who received our box. That was Romania. Please don't forget the older children in orphanages too. Boxes for teenage lads are not very plentiful apparently so we will see if we can make up another to go with our girls' boxes. Gwyn

Hi Carol, I have been doing them, one for a boy and one for a girl, for the last five years since my first grandchild was born. I always do them for older children as I've been told that most people do them for the little ones. We always put in a Christmas card with a note in English and then the same thing underneath in the language of the country it's going to. Using one of the free translation sites on here of course lol. Merry Christmas Linda

We do it as a church event. We sent 70 boxes last year and are aiming for 80 this year. We all have lunch together , wrap the boxes and then choose the things to go in them based on donations from individuals in the local area. A lady I know runs one of the warehouses and has in the past been out to Romania to physically deliver the presents. Its amazing to see the impact the something as simple as a paper tiara can have on a child.
