Yes Rose, they are normally off colour and infectious before the spots emerge too. Hope whoever has it gets it mildly and gets better soon. Tina x

How spooky is this thread???? Was just gona ask the symptoms for chicken pox and low and behold a thread appeared in front of me!!! lol lol Anyway.....son has roaring temperature(39.2 - 41!), and feels flu-like but to be perfectly honest he's still lively and perky and eating/drinking well so am not bothered apart from this temperature that will just not come down....now I am keepinghim cool but coz he's shivery have dug out the baby blanket...you know the mesh sort??? just to keep him from freezing altogether.........now my concern is last night he said he had numb hands...this appeared to have gone again this morning......and his temp was down so I sent him off to school like a bad mother and was promptly phoned by 10am to come and collect this poor waif......now the teacher said she noticed something was wrong as he was dropping stuff when emptying his school bag in class but more than normal(he's clumsy anyway)and he just seemed 'not there'......so I bundled him in the car and took him home but he was very droopy in the car and shivering.......so ran him a toasty bath and he lay in it for 1/2hr then got out and lay on sofa all afternoon watching dvd's as if nothing was wrong.......now tonight he again is complaining of numb hands and his temp is through the roof again and he's shivering.....now the fever I can understand but don't get what the numb hands mean......has anyone any ideas??????? Also when (if it is!) chicken pox which are rife here the now......what do the spots look like....I was told by a nurse when he was 2 that he'd had them then and it was one spot and I canny remember what it looked like.......he has 3 heat spots onhis back but assumed this would be from his temp and laying snuggled up all afternoon....but nothing that looks blister like??????.......are there different looking types of spots????? RDA.x.

rag doll, your son was shaking because his temp was to high, with a temp over 4o he will start going into shock, children with chicken pox are at worse before the spots appear, once the spots appear they are getting over it,any child with a temp over 40 should be in hospital, childrens hands and feet go numb because theve got a high temp, prolonged high temp could cause fits or even organ failure, xxx

Hi RDA, It is possible that your little one has a heat rash if he has trying to keep warm, temperatures must be kept an eye on though. The chicken pox spots are usually blister types, varying sizes. It is highly infectious at this stage. When they have all scabbed over they are considered not infectious anymore, just look very unsightly. Chicken pox is highly infectious before the spots emerge too, this is why it is so easily caught...sufferers are probably more poorly pre-spot . Hope he feels better tomorrow. Tina x

The doctors here are aware of little sprite's temp control as he was 9 weeks premature (8yrs ago!) and this seems to be the only thing he had wrong with him......his body's own temperature gauge doesn't manage very well and we've always had to keep an eye on it as he suffers badly from febrile convulsions......we have the diazepam in the medicine cupboard for it so we are prepared.......but I wasn't sure what the spots looked like.....he was only 2 when he had them (don't believe he did but nurse said so) and it was only one spot on his foot........but the ones he has the now look more like heat spots not blistery at all........so we'll wait and see how he develops overnight.........I am thinking it could be chicken pox judging by his symptoms but am awaiting spots......does anyone know how long they take to develop if it is chicken pox?????.......is it kind of 24-48hrs after becoming unwell????? Many thanks for any advice in advance!!! RDA.x.
