All of the above! Make sure they are cooked just right - it's when they are slightly undercooked that you get the lumps, drain well. Bit of butter and cream (preferable) or milk and give them a good bash I agree that a whisk is better but spud basher is fine. I like mine with a bit of freshly chopped chives - mmmm or tarragon. Oooooh I want some now :) Enjoy yours when you have them. Lyn x |

It all depends also on the type of potato you use, I always plum for maris piper, desiree or king edwards if others not available, once cooked leave them to steam on a low heat to dry them until the steam stops, then with an elctric mixer beat them with a good dollop of butter and same of extra thick double cream, plus salt and a lot of white pepper, don't beat them for too long with electric as they turn gluey and aren't as nice. I melt the butter in a little milk then add it to the mashed potato hot. That seems to make it even tastier and fluffier. Sometimes a little grated nutmeg as well as usual seasonings is very good....especially if I am doing a mixture of mashed swede and potato or mashed celeriac and potato. Sue |

Funny I'm doing mash tonight too.lol If you want it really creamy add butter and cream-or whole milk if you not got any cream, salt, pepper-Now here's the secret. Use a whisk rather than a masher-so much better no lumps at all. catherine xx |

Cook potatoes with a pinch of salt, put into bowl with a little milk, a shake of pepper & a knob of butter, use a mixer to mash them. This makes lovely smooth & creamy mash. You can add a little grated cheese, a little chopped parsley, cooked carrot or swede, before mashing for variety. |

Mash with Butter and fresh cream. If you like garlic add some to mashed potato or some grated cheese. Freshly ground pepper also is nice in them Regards Jackie |
