Thanks for posting this thread - and thanks also to Gwyn for telling me when to set my recorder on Friday! Just checked with Radio Times online and it looks spot on! Looks fascinating! Regs Annie |

Sounds facinating! Missed it as was in work so will have to keep fingers crossed that my video be haves and I can record a repeat. Have always wondered if I have Medateranian (poss Italian or Greek) ancestry on my dad's side as like alot of his family I have sallow skin, I know part of mum's family came from France but her lot are as fair as you get (mum looks like a vampire or snow white) but I'm back a to 1700's and still mainly Welsh / English with a hint of Irish thrown in. Although an Asian lady asked me a fortnight ago if I was part Indian, think it was because I have very think staight dark brown/ nearly black hair and my sallow skin looked like fair asian skin in the lighting of the room we were in. |

Radio Times shows that it will be repeated this Friday night, ie. Friday / Saturday at 4.15 am. This is in the south/west & southwest issue. Maybe not country wide? Gwyn |

Fascinating programme. I'd love to have my DNA tested. I haven't found a hint of anything other than English or Welsh but I must have some non Northern European genes. In France I was asked if I was Spanish, in Spain they thought I was Italian and a woman up the road thought for years I was Anglo-Indian. My blood group is rare for a Brit as well. Gwynne |

Winter Drawers Very interesting and thought provoking programme which proved that none of us are what we think we are! The woman who threatened to sue, is the founder member of some weird group of 'pure Anglo Saxons' who have at least one thousand years of unbroken, unpolluted anglo saxon blood in their veins. Her DNA proved she was anything BUT anglosaxon, a right mixture of everything. The DNA Scientist said the best explanation for this complete mix was that she had Romany Gypsy ancestry, originating in the Ukraine. She threated to sue Channel 4, pmsl. In fact all eight of them got a surprise, particularly the English Flag Waving, I am British through and through blah blah - turned out to be probably Middle Eastern with chinese thrown in! Unhappy bunny. Only Norman Tebbitt, the politician, turned out to have what was described as a typically English DNA - mostly northern european, with no asian, african or american DNA. OC |

Most people they tested had high and mighty attitudes about their Englishness and ended up totally shocked by the results. |

Went to the family history fair at Scarborough on Saturday and there was a company there offering DNA testing. Called something like familygenetics? Had quite a few people looking at the stand. Maureen |

Hi Lynda I read a bit only about it, and it said that Carol Thacther was 23% East Asian. Apparently she didn't know of 1% let alone almost 1/4! |
