Winter Drawers Ever Near

Winter Drawers Ever Near Report 12 Nov 2006 16:20

A few nights ago hubby was watching tv and a little field mouse ran across the fireplace and behind one of the settees. Opened patio doors and hoped it had gone. Hubby just said that the little darling has just done the same thing again while he has been watching footie. How in the name of God do I catch it. Aileen xxx

You can get humain traps which is mainly a cardboard box that you load with food. Contact your council they may be able to help you. Jackie:o)

I used a milk bottle propped at an angle on abrick, with food in the bottom. It couldn't get out because the glass was slippery. In those days, I had a long garden with a field at the bottom, so I took the mouse, bottle and all, down to the bottom, tipped it out... and chased it all the way back into the house again! Next time I caught it, I took it down the road into the barn!

Aileen,Hope you did not watch the Catherine Tate show the other night. The old gran had one in her place and was moaning to her grandson about how this mouse nicks her food etc.Tells grandson to do something,so he clubs it to death. She then called him a murderer and how she was going to miss this little mouse and she wont be able to watch the tele with it again. It was very funny.Annie

Thanks for that folks. Could never kill the little creature. Get all upset if I stand on a snail. Might try the milk bottle thingy. Will have to borrow one from my neighbour as I don't get my milk delivered any more or use a plastic milk carton. Aileen xxx

Hi Aileen Hope you get it sorted soon before it brings its friends home. You could borrow my cat but I'm not sure whether she would chase it although she does like the toy variety at 5am in the morning. Good luck.

Promised myself a lazy day today. What went wrong!!!! Bought a duck instead of a chicken. Now have a mouse in the living room. Oh to heck with it. It can eat the damn settee as long as hubby is the one sitting on it. Just going to muddle through and watch LOTR Two Towers at 8pm. Might try and tempt it out with my toffee popcorn and grab it in a fishing net. If not it can sit and join me to watch the film. Am I bothered? Aileen xxx

We knew we had a mouse in the house once, as we heard rustling. I bought a humane trap, which is a long cuboid shape made of plastic. You put food at the far end, mouse goes in, plastic flap drops behind the mouse preventing escape and one can take the whole thing outside to set the mouse free...... .......in theory. I tried all manner of food. Peanuts, biscuits, hamster food, chocolate drops- after someone said they couldn't resist them but nothing was taken. One day as I went upstairs, the tiniest little field mouse shot along the landing. Fortunately I was able to trap it with a large cardboard box and take it safely outside. Goodness knows how it got upstairs. It was really quite cute, ...but not suited to indoor life although it survived several days on very little if anything, to eat. Gwyn

We had a little field mouse once in the utility room. It ran along the pipes into the kitchen, so I shut all the doors and opened the one into the hall, and left it for a while. Dear little thing was scratching at the front door to get out. Anyway I managed to open the door and it ran off. Hope it got away, as the cats chased it, poor little thing. Lynda x

I had a mouse under the fridge freezer once. I moved the f/f and the mouse was curled up in a newspaper nest. Called the cat, who sniffed it and looked at me! Meanwhile, mouse decides to do a runner, it ran into my daughters doc marten boot. I put something over the top of the boot, ran to the back door, called the cat, let the mouse go and shut the door. Next morning, the cat was 'banging' the cat flap to be let in (the flap was open, but he preferred me opening the door! I opened the door to find......The cat and mouse sat together on the doorstep waiting to come in!! The cat was a fantastic mouser & ratter, but never touched the children's various pet hamsters rats etc, nor the guinea pigs that had free range of our, and next door's garden. I can only assume, as the mouse had been in the house it smelt of us, and the cat thought it was a pet!! maggie

We lived in an old house, one winter we had a little visitor. It must have died next to the water pipes in my daughters bedroom, under the floor boards....anyone who has experienced this pong, will know, once smelt...never forgotten. Hope you catch your little friend, before it brings the family to stay. :o))) Tina x
