Today is Remembrance Day - yes I know it was yesterday, but today I have been watching the wreath laying and march at the Cenotaph. I think of my birth father, Canadian, far from home. I never met him, and now he is gone. I think of my birth mother, naive and loving, I met her but she too is gone now I think of my full sister, separated from me by being adopted to a different family to myself. Where is she? How has her life been? War touches everyone, and the shadows it casts are very long. Eileen birth name |

How true Eileen. My aunt, one of my mother's sisters, had a baby by an American GI in 1944 (before I was born). She had the baby adopted (strict Catholic family - 'What would the neighbours say etc.'). I recently found her birth registered BMD index and I've put her in my tree. I have often wondered what happened to her, what sort of life she has had, has she children etc. and does she wonder about her real mum. |
