I did my navy apprenticeship on board a coolie crewed ship. The two cooks were Goanese and so started my love for curries. It is probably illegal to advertise on here, but there is a small company that produces the bases for curry equal to the best, in Sudbury, Suffolk and in York. All you need is 24 hours notice to prepare with 1 kg of meat, fish or veg and 250 ml of water, no joke. Look for www.spicebox(.)co(.)uk, quite comprehensive, just ordered a large quantity for Xmas and New Year. Gotta be worth a look, Derek in France |

Hi you ladies, lets say thanks to Tara. Jeanette, better than a restuarant?, at least you know whats in them. Irishgirl, TRY, its a must in life, you will not regret it. I've only visited the Sudbury shop, it's another world, a cave from the orient. Go for it, Derek |

Irishgirl, you won't be sorry. I visited Sudbury a year ago on route back to France, we bought £135 of different sachets, plus a few odds and ends. I have just ordered another 24 sachets plus coconut cream(in packets), Spicebox have confirmed that 3 parcels will be sent at £8 each for postage. Can't get a tank of fuel for that. My fav so far is difficult, but the Moghlai Masala, closely followed by a Pasander and a Roghan Gosht. After preparing, leave for 24 hours in fridge before serving. My brother who lives about 100 miles away has also sent off for his weekly fix. Good luck, Derek |

Hi, Thank you for this tip Derek. I looked at the website on Sunday and ordered a few varieties. I was impressed that they came first thing yesterday (Tuesday), and last night we had the Thai Red Curry (we couldn't wait 24 hours). I have to say it was the most delicious home-cooked curry I have ever tasted, and tasted just like the curries you get in Thai restaurants. Hubby was in raptures and went back for seconds, and then thirds. It was so easy to prepare as well. Can't wait to try the other varieties. Liz :-) |
