Yuo need their birth certificates. If you don't have them, you can order them from the GRO, the references can be found on FreeBMD or Ancestry, The certificates will give parents names, which will enable you to look through the census' and trace them back that way. Then when you have foudn their marriage through BMD's, and got their certificates, it should give a clue to the previous generation. Be aware that you can't get certificates from before September 1837, but you can search parish records. Just ask when you get back that far. Why not go into WHSmith and look for a book on genealogy and family history. There is a wealth of useful information and pointers there too. Again, never be frightened to ask on Tips, they will help you out.

First of all, take some time to read through the threads on the tips board..take not of what people are asking, and then look at the replies, you will learn so much that way. Take a look at the following sites, they will help you no end, and I'm sure others will add for you too. FreeBMD(.)co(.)uk Ancestry(.)co(.)uk CWGC.org a2a.org.uk Remove brackets from the above, I put them in because GR will not let me post links. Play around on them so you get to know them, and follow some of the routes taken on some of the tips threads. on Ancestry, the 1901 and 1881 are free at the moment, so you can look into the records and see who else was in the household at the time...that has helped me no end. Lastly but most importantly, don't get stuck and give up. ASK on Tips, there are lots of people on there more than willing to help you. Just remember to check back on any threads you put up, as they can find information really quickly!
