My 16 year old has given me a lot of worry but was always loving when things were good between us, been with girlfriend for 18 months who is very spoilt and possesive maybe cos she lost her dad, me and lass have got on well in past but shes moody and will go for weeks being cold, For past 8 or so months son has hardly spoken to me apart from to be nasty, have overheard them arguing and lass saying she doesnt want him bothering with his family, I feel i've lost my son and it hurts like hell, cant see it changing as he loves her like mad, Anyone else had this? caz xx |

My daughter is the same Caz, she has barely spoken to me in six years, when her now ex boyfriend came between us after me and her dad split up. I feel your son is being torn, so dont' give up hope. He loves you, but he loves his girlfriend too, sometimes we just have to sit back and let them get on with it, and just be there when they decide to come back. I hope it all works out xx |

Selina eldest was noprob with his girl, Hayley thanks that it may get better, Teresa he says things that he never used to say before, like constantly critising the house, on at me about anything he can get at me about, girlfriend just stands there while hes abusive. Eldest son then gets angry and defends me so you can imagine probs.... Josh wanted to take his little sis to where he works and his lass said no take my little sis,he stays at his girlfriends a lot but one night last week he was here and I crept in to his room when he was asleep and stroked his head , the first time I've touched him since early this year... Caz xxx |

Its a horrible age, and they do hurt you so much. They don't know they are doing it though. He'll come round eventually Caz, but for now, you just have to let him get on with it. Its hard but its the only way. Even the gentlest push will make him piggy in the middle and that will make matters worse. |

My eldest grandson had a girlfriend when he was 16 who was very possesive and resented his mother. Her parents were always arguing then they would make up and go off on holiday without the family, leaving her to look after the younger children She wanted to him to live in a flat with her,he could work and she would carry on with her studies. Thats when they parted company, he carried on with his studies. and she is in a low paid job because her parents told her that she had to earn a living or get out He has another girlfriend now who is totally different and her family are really nice Bren |

Hi Caz, this is so DeJaVu (is that how it is spelt?) with my son, he 'saw the light', eventually, and dumped her. It will be the same with your son, with a loving family behind him he will realise what he is missing. Tina x |

Hi, i have the same problem, the only thing that works is to get on the right side of the girl, try and become her friend, you will find that she laps it up keep praising her, that way she will begin to feel more secure and slowly she will begin to let you in, at the moment her fear is she wants your son to think there is no one better than her, mum is a big threat, as she knows your son adores you. Hope this helps but it will take time. |

Caz, as others have said on here, I'm sure that he will see the light eventually. I must be really lucky, my son lives with his girlfriend and she is lovely. She feels like another daughter to me. My daughter is a different story, she never keeps a bloke long enough for me to get to know them! |

My 21 yr old has had more girlfriends than hot dinners, some good some bad, but I always find that at some stage they make that 1 mistake and then disappear from the scene. My 18 year old always seems to pick the 'odd ones' and then always gets hurt by them. However the 16 year old has been with girlfriend just a year, she is lovely girl and they spend a lot of time with both families. I find that getting on with my own life but letting the boys know I'm always there for them works in my family. Some times if the kids think your not interested in them THEY make the first move. Who said being a parent was easy. |

My mum had this trouble with my brother and girlfriend now wife. Mum let them know she would always be there for them if they needed her and left them to it. My brother and wife came round in the end and she had a really close bond with my mum. She probably feels threatened. Be strong love, it will work out in the end. Jackie:o) |
