Strange, we had some Guppies and some Mollie fry, so we set up a small tank, just for them, however a Mollie which was being bullied was gravid, so we put her in with the fry...and lived quite happily alongside...when she dropped hers, the previous fry jumped on the new fry.........some have survived, however in the main tank another guppy dropped hers, and are happily swimming around. and not being gobbled up.............Bob think they managed to hide in the hair algae. so it has SOME uses..

I don't know to be honest Bob. You could try an Apple snail. They eat loads of algae, and they will only eat plants which are dying. Google snail shop and take a look.

Hiya Paul I have a tropical tank with Zebra danios and Black Neon Tetras will be getting a few more variety's but tank is new and only been set up now for 3 months....... Stella.......I was going to get those snails for my other freshwater tank where i have a a black moor chinese goldfish and another chinese fish and a butterfly pleca.....but i was told that they cause more waste then keeping the tank clean.. Butterfly Pleca's are great for keeping algae levels down and they can go in with tropical or goldfish..

I was told - but don't know if it's right, that snails keep the tank clean.

hehe, I've got loads of snails too. Apple snails, and Malaysian Trumpet snails. I'm too lazy to hoover the gravel, so I got the Trumpet snails to do it for me. :-p

Good idea Paul - good luck. You are tempting me into getting another tank and taking up the hobby again !!

Paul

Paul Report 11 Nov 2006 11:20

Yeah, I think i'm going to do some moving around. I have 2 tanks, One of them is full with Swordtails, and I don't really want them to breed anymore. SO i think i might move them to my main tank, and cut the weed back, so the babies won't survive. (It sounds cruel, but there will soon be to many in the tank otherwise) and move my Guppies or Mollies to the smaller tank.

East Point Report 11 Nov 2006 11:17

Hope they're Mollies then Paul. Don't let them into the main tank too soon though, especially if you have any Angel fish - they'll make a meal of them.

Paul

Paul Report 11 Nov 2006 11:12

I'm not sure. They're either swordtails, Guppies, or Balloon Mollies. I've had a lot of success with Swordtails in the past, but not once have I have any females. lol I hope they're mollies, because I was starting to think they didnt fancy each other.

East Point Report 11 Nov 2006 11:04

Hope you've put them in a nursery tank inside the main tank Paul - are they guppies or black mollies?

Paul

Paul Report 11 Nov 2006 11:00
