Record-breaker Bill Jones celebrated the miraculous milestone at his birthday party on Thursday. Mr Jones from Slough, has been married to his wife Eluned, 102, for 83-and-a-half years – six months longer than the existing world record. Mrs Jones, who suffers from dementia, now lives in a nursing home, Slough. The family must fill in a form online and provide a copy of the marriage certificate to claim their spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. Mr Jones was born on July 20, 1901 in Pontypridd, South Wales – six months after the death of Queen Victoria. One of eight children, he came to England in the 1920s during the depression to find work. From London he went to Reading by train but when he saw the queues of people looking for work he decided to try his luck in Slough following a tip-off at the railway station. He found a job at the newly established McMichael factory in Petersfield Avenue which specialised in making radios and televisions. He worked there until after World War Two when he set up his own business in Baylis Parade which sold radios, electrical goods and bicycles. He lived in digs before moving into Hatton Avenue in newly-built Manor Park. Once settled he was joined by his wife and young son, Islywn, known as Jim, who is now 83. Mr Jones, retired now for 40 years, was rarely seen out of doors without his trilby hat and all his life had a passion for cowboy films. His daughter-in-law, Pat Jones, said he was not afraid to do things his own way and liked to live for the day, travelling abroad twice a year with his wife in his younger years. She said: “He did not believe in saving money but in enjoying his life. He’s a very private man. He lived life his way.” Despite enjoying the good life Mr Jones never smoked or drank and attributes a long life to good genes. He has a granddaughter, Michele, two great grandchildren and a great-great grandson.

thats a nice little story. I was checking out those free passenger lists on ancestry today. I am sure one of them is wrong. One of my McKerrow lot seemed to have sailed from Scotland to New York aged 100.... Why and how would she do that?? lol
