Thank you so much for all your comments. Like some have said it is not really a diet as such it's eating healthy food. I know its a struggle for some people to change their eating habits. When hubby first started on it I thought OMG I'll be cooking all day. But the meals you make are really quite quick, so you are not spending as much time in the kitchen. The first two weeks are the worst getting used to different ingredients but you soon get used to it. I did forget to mention also that in the book I mentioned on the original there is also a two week plan for vegetarians if your not into the meat and fish dishes. Once again thank you everyone for your comments and for those that are going to give it a try I wish you all the best and let us know how you go with it. Kindest Regards Jackie |

sounds a good diet. I don't like the idea of gimmick diets apart from being unhealthy when you go back to normal eating the weight goes back on. I think it's changing your eating habits and adopting a healthy eating regime that really works. I think I will have a look at the GI book. |

Hi Jackie, congratulations to your OH!!! Losing weight for the heaviest of us (yes I am one) is all about 'Life Style Change'. The Glycaemic Index, whilst not exactly a diet as such, is a fantastic way of helping achieve this change of life style. It keeps your mind happy because you eat the right foods to keep you feeling full. It's taken me 15 odd years to accept that if I want to lose weight and make it stay off ..I have to change eating habits ...good luck to all who are struggling with weight loss, when your heaad is in the 'right place' it will happen. Hi Roxanne I totally agree with you. Yor body and metabolism change as you get older. Low Gi Diet's state that you have to have a Balanced Diet and not miss meals. I like you don't want to critisize but surely one small dinner per day is not what you would call a BALANCED Diet. I myself know from experience, I went through a stage where I was missing lunch, believe it or not I actually put on weight. Not that I am overweight but all the same I gained. Now that hubby has retired and I have to make lunch for him I don't miss that midday meal anymore for myself and it has got me back to my original weight. So yes I agree totally that can happen. Regards Jackie |

Hi Chris,I know you have said your eating habbits havnt changed but they should as you get older, your metabolisim changes. I think it could be that your not eating enough,I know it sounds weirdlol but too little food can play havoc with your metabolisim. I was told this years ago by a dietician, you need to eat more to burn fat. sorry Im not preaching to you, hope you dont mind:-)) |

Having read Jackie's post re three meals a day!!! If I ate three meals a day I would be the size of a house :( I never eat breakfast.....Or lunch....And eat a small dinner. Two years ago I was seven stone and happy. One year ago seven and a half stone and ok. Now eight and a half stone and down right miserable :( No change in eating habits....Just change of life??? :( Chris |

We have a book co-written by Jennie Brand-Miller. We also have one called GI Diet, by Antony Worrall Thompson. He became a big fan after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. |

The scientist who did the orginial research on this and invented the GI way of eating is Australian - Jennie Brand-Miller. There's a good article about her on this site: http://education.guardian*co*uk/higher/profile/story/0,11109,1531002,00.html (Replace the * with .) Monica |

Hi Roxanne You eat 3 main meals per day. Breakfast, Lunch Dinner. Then you have 2 snacks per day, morning and afternoon. You never have the same thing for any of the meals some days for breakfast it's porridge or muesli or flakes other days for breakfast it's pancakes, or toast and spreads and the occasional cooked breakfast. For lunch it could be a bean salad or a chicken salad or the occasional Sandwich with Low GI Bread (Bread with grains in it is what we have) we make our own bread with Bread machine. Also pasta is on the Lunch Menu. and soup Dinner could be Salmon Steaks or Tuna Steaks or Chicken. Not a lot of red meat on the menu's but there is the occasional one. Sometimes Dinner is with vegies sometimes with Salad sometimes with Pasta. It seems you can eat as many vegies as you want and it gives you a list of what is Low GI and Hi GI in the book. Fish and Chicken are the most popular. There are Beans Lentils and Chick Peas in a few of the recipes also. My hubby hates bland food so if I think it won't be tasty enough I add Either Garlic, or Chilli or herbs and spices and he has been real happy with the food. Its the kind of thing you can vary to your own taste really. Potatoes are very high in GI so they advise either Sweet Potato or Baby potatoes (New) as they are lower in starch. Hope this helps a little Roxanne. I am not on a diet but I also enjoy most of the food I cook for hubby. (She says as she eats a packet of crisps lol Take Care hagd Jackie |

Sylvia Ross | Report | 10 Nov 2006 11:52 |
I reckon the Gi diet does work. I don't follow it myself, but have cut out all bread and potatoes and have lost about a stone. Have brown rice, pasta, couscous and Ryvita instead. |

Morning Jackie My son who lives in Luxembourg has gone on this diet, and he has also lost kilos. The thing is, they seem to eat LOADS. All healthy stuff mind. My daughter here in Wales has also bought the English version, as I think the oringinal is French. Hasn't attempted it yet, and I could certainly do with it! It's the self discipline thats the key, and stcking to the regime. Lynda on a cold and frosty Welsh morning |

w Gi Diet My husband has put on so much weight since he retired. Not that he’s a lazy man he still Walks every day and loves the garden. He just seems to have piled the Kilo’s on I the past three years. Recently we heard of a Low GI Diet (Glycaemic Index). I didn’t know anything about it. Anyway we decided to buy a book. The book we bought was an English version called Easy GI Diet by Helen Foster Recommended retail price nine pound 99 (I don’t have a pound sign on my computer lol) I’m in Australia. Anyway it is a 2 week plan with all the recipes in the book also. The food is tasty and easily available. Although I did have a small problem with a couple of items being in Australia but I checked on the internet and used alternatives. We are most impressed with this diet. You eat plenty and don’t starve yourself but you are eating the right foods. My husband has lost 5 kilos in 5 weeks that’s 10lb 10 ozs in your terms. He has lost 4 cms of his waistline also. For anyone that wants to loose weight we would recommend trying it. It beats those expensive places you go to where you have to buy their food. It is all fresh food that you use and very little cans and frozen stuff. Hubby loves it and in a few more weeks will stop worrying about him as much. I was concerned that he may have a heart attack with the weight he was putting on. Hope this helps someone Regards Jackie |
