Growing up in England with a Welsh name meant that I have become used to a great variety of spellings. On GR here there are several with my first name although in real life I had never met another person with the name until I met Gwynne / Guinevere at the Coventry lunch meet earlier this year. It doesn't annoy me when people spell it wrongly, but I do notice when they spell my name incorrectly. Gwyn

Melanie

Melanie Report 10 Nov 2006 02:22

I hate it when I introduce myself as Melanie and they say Oh HI Mel..... ARGH! If i wanted to be called Mel, I would introduce myself as Mel. The daft thing is nearly all my mates call me Mel, but it seems too ..... familiar, when it is someone I have just met!

My daughter is called Sarahbeth. Get really annoyed when people call her Sarah - especially when filling in official form, eg. school or doctors. Was told at clinic when she was a baby that they did not have enough spaces for full name. Would they put Vicky instead of Victoria? - don't think so !! Libby xx (Elizabeth)

Teresa my aunt has the same problem, in fact she was introduced to her husband when they met for the first time as Tracey not Teresa. He never called her Teresa, and most of his mates also called her Tracey!!! despite knowing her correct name

we was talking about this today instead of watching the school tema play football... cos it was more interesting. LOL One of the mums is either called Carolyn or Caroline. I always thought she was Carolyn, however anothermum has always called her Caroline.... thing is she's never corrected either of us??? I only get cross when peeps use my formal name cos I HATE it. OOOHHHH other thing i get stressed about is if people call Kerry.... Kelly, but then i call her Kel... so double standards? Think it is acceptable to make a mistake once maybe even tiwce, but if it has been pointed out then it is only good manners to use the correct/prefered name. I always used to spell Daphne wrong but once it was pointed out I made sure I spelt it correctly. xxxxxxx

when people get your name wrong?? I worked for 6 months with a girl who insisted on calling me Maureen - that is NOT my name! I also object when people insist on spelling it wrong, even when it is in black and white in front of them. I may not like my name that much, but I do want it said and spelt correctly - it's only good manners surely?! Maz. XX
