During the war my Dad was based in Belgium they were camped parked? for sometime and a couple used to come out and take the soldiers hot soup etc. One couple became friendly with my Dad and kept in touch after the war. When they found out about me being on the way they asked if I could be named after them . If I had been a boy I would have been called Emanuel. They must have been a very special couple for my parents to do that. They kept in touch for many years when I was little I often wonder what became of them. Hense no way was my name ever!!! to be cut short to Gerry and it never has those that tried were soon pulled up that was her one stipulation. Germiane x |

Jeanie | Report | 9 Nov 2006 19:31 |
I was named via the Scottish naming pattern after my maternal grandmother: Jeanie McDougall then surname Brewerton. If I had had an elder sister I would have been called Ethel Wilkes Brewerton. Ethel was all the rage in late 1800's. Not many now. |

My first name Jacqueline in after both my grandfathers but my middle name Teresa is after a film my mum watched when she was pregnant with me. I think it was called the miracle and starred Roger Moore who fell in love with a young nun whose name was Teresa. I had never seen this film until 2 weeks after my mum died. I was having a hard time sleeping and went downstairs to watch telly and it was on. I might be stupid but I thought of it as a sign from my mum. Jackie |

Sorry June got a visitor. Yes it was lovely and makes you think how grateful they must have been to have our troops there. Dad didn't talk much about what he saw during the war but he seemed very fond of this couple and also a little girl in Holland her mother wouldn't speak to the soldiers but she used to send her little girl and she would pick up their washing and the soldiers used to give them soap and chocolate. In return. She used to stand and watch while the little girl went and collected and returned the washing. Germiane x |
