Deb Vancouver (18665) Report 10 Nov 2006 06:35

My Mum said that Father Doyle WOULD NOT baptise me Deborah as he thought I was being named after Debroah Kerr! They made a compromise - I was baptised Joan Deborah. Deb

DAVE B

DAVE B Report 10 Nov 2006 06:01

Sarah

Sarah Report 10 Nov 2006 02:05

My mum had called me Kali from the day I was born, just because she thought it was a beautiful name, but when it came to having me baptised the priest refused to give me that name because it was Hindu rather than Christian. She chose Sarah because in the bIble she didn't conceive until she was 90! lol

Johanne

Johanne Report 9 Nov 2006 22:51

I was going to be Trevor if I was a boy after Mum's little brother! Not sure who won the battle for my name but I know the spelling is Dad's fault - he said when he went to register my birth they asked him how to spell it, he had no idea so made it up! It's not a common spelling but I've 'met' another Johane through Genes.

Tonya

Tonya Report 9 Nov 2006 22:24

Hello, I was going to be called Nicola until mum saw Dr Zhivago at the cinema when she was expecting me. Tonya was the name of Uri's sister. Wished she had called me Lara or Katya both names were in the film and much prettier. Tonya x

Sue

Sue Report 9 Nov 2006 22:19

When my Mum was a little girl she always said she would have a daughter called Susan - and here I am! LOL My second name is Ann after my paternal grandmother. Good job it wasn't after my maternal grandmother - her name was Flo!!! I wanted my elder daughter to be named Daisy, but I was overruled by OH. Got my way with younger daughter though, he wanted Amy, but she's Gemma (cos she's my little gem - well she was once) :o))) Sue xx

Little Lost

Little Lost Report 9 Nov 2006 21:52

when my daughter was having her 2nd baby she kept telling her 2 1/2 year old Jemima that she will be the big sister and somehow the sister bit is a big part of Jemimas vocabulary. She quite often introduces the baby as SISTER MADELINE. Sounds so comical as it sounds just like a nuns name. Dont know where my daughter got either of those names from but she is quite biblical herself.

Germaine

Germaine Report 9 Nov 2006 21:09

Sorry June got a visitor. Yes it was lovely and makes you think how grateful they must have been to have our troops there. Dad didn't talk much about what he saw during the war but he seemed very fond of this couple and also a little girl in Holland her mother wouldn't speak to the soldiers but she used to send her little girl and she would pick up their washing and the soldiers used to give them soap and chocolate. In return. She used to stand and watch while the little girl went and collected and returned the washing. Germiane x

My first name Jacqueline in after both my grandfathers but my middle name Teresa is after a film my mum watched when she was pregnant with me. I think it was called the miracle and starred Roger Moore who fell in love with a young nun whose name was Teresa. I had never seen this film until 2 weeks after my mum died. I was having a hard time sleeping and went downstairs to watch telly and it was on. I might be stupid but I thought of it as a sign from my mum. Jackie

Jeanie

Jeanie Report 9 Nov 2006 19:31

I was named via the Scottish naming pattern after my maternal grandmother: Jeanie McDougall then surname Brewerton. If I had had an elder sister I would have been called Ethel Wilkes Brewerton. Ethel was all the rage in late 1800's. Not many now.
