Is being an Avon lady worth it?

Hi we do Avon and have done it for a year now. It is what you make it. We spent alot of time initially canvassing customers and expanding into remote areas where most of our customers now are. We give free gifts from the agent's clearance brochure to keep people's interest. We however make alot of our own stationary stuff to keep costs down as Avon charge you for their calling cards etc. We have become President's club members without bothering arranging parties, which I think most customers these days wouldn't fancy. We have also not bought lots of demonstration products. We have been asked about being Sales Leaders, but are happy doing what we are doing and don't want to be responsible for other people. Anyway basically if you are willing to put the work in you can get somewhere, we don't make a fortune, but have paid for christmas.

Lol Mrs Presley! Im at home with 3 children and my husbands just been made redundant but hopefully will find work soon. Have just heard Avon now have Sales Leaders, so I might give that a go. Basically they pay you £80 for becoming one, then your job is to recruit as many Avon reps as possible. You then earn a percentage of THEIR earnings, and of course you can still put brochures out in the original way.

Do you work Rebekah and will your work friends buy from you? I get my Avon from a friend at work and she has a nice little earner going. She also has another job in a bar, so sells to people there too. She does most of her business without walking the streets putting brochures through letter boxes.

Hi, I have tried this twice before, unfortunately any money I made I had already spent on the products, When you are an agent you get a special offer leaflet which is only for the agent. I always made the best of this, and never made a penny because of this.

Our daughter did it and found it was a lot of hard work for little reward. She found people got carried away & ordered goods then got cold feet for paying when the orders came thro for delivery. Many the time peeps wouldnt answer the door when she was delivering cos they had changed their minds. She gave it up cos it didnt pay her for all the work she put in

I did it for a few years quite recently and my friend then took over my customers. In my opinion you get out of it what you put in ... if you try and do it for pin money and your own Avon products, then that is what you will get. That's the way I did it and I was happy enough, although I preferred doing it in the summer I must say! But if you are like some of the reps and treat it as a full time job, then you can probably make a fair bit of money out of it. They put loads of effort in, go into offices as well as private homes, have parties and open houses and are always canvassing and giving samples. They probably invest a fair bit to start with, but see the rewards at the end. The best reps are invited to special dinners all round the country and the top few win a special holiday. The best piece of advice I can give you is NEVER GIVE GOODS WITHOUT PAYMENT!!! I was caught a couple of times where I trusted people and they let me down. Make it a hard and fast rule and you will be ok! Good luck! Maz. XX

have done something similar in the past most of the direct selling companies expect you to spend money to make money so be aware that you may have to fork out some cash first. brochures etc you have to pay for and any products you want to demonstrate as well. one of the best earners is Virgin Vie but the stuff is very expensive - check out your local area first and be prepared to work quite hard in the begining good luck

Haven't seen one of them in years. Not round here anyway. Problem with that is you are going round sticking brochures in doors and then having to trudge back round collecting them and any orders. That can be a bit hit and miss. One good money earner is a company called Partylite. Scented candles for home and garden. Quite expensive but lovely quality goods. You could make quite a bit of money especially on the run up to Xmas. Knew someone who did it and used to do a couple of parties a week and earned quite a bit of money.

I reckon you should go back to the 70's approach When you go to collect the books, when they answer the door you should go Ding Dong Avon calling! Bet you will get loads of customers. You see they don't hear that anymore! catherine xx
