My husband had a bowel resection in July this year, op went well but a Fistula formed a few weeks later. (He also has Crohns Disease). He is putting weight back on slowly but the Fistula will not stop leaking, it's only a few mils a day but untill it heals up he can't get on with things he wants to do. He has a stick on stoma bag on his stomach over the fistula in case it leaks, i was wondering if anyone else had experienced Fistula's and how long do they take to heal. Dawn

Hiya, I had a vesico vaginal fistula a few years ago following my hysterectomy, I found a general lack of info and support so set up a support group on yahoo groups.I don't get many people as it is a relatively uncommon thing to happen bbut I've currently a lass in Canada with the same as your hubby he might find i useful to swap notes Carol

my dad has a perianal fistula, never had an op it just formed we think because he had hemeroids and they caused a split in the skin. As to healing, like any open skin wound it will take time and it varies between people but keeping the area clean and dry and eatting a good varied balenced diet should help.
