Yeah quite partial to a mince pie, but prefer home made as opposed to supermarket ones. Esp warm from the oven. Yummy. catherine xx

hi Irishgirl, ok here goes 8oz plain flour 1levelteaspoon mixed spice 1 level teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 level teaspoon grated nutmeg 1 level teaspoon cocoa powder 8ozbutter 8oz soft brown sugar 4 eggs 1 tablespoon black treacle 1 1/2ibmixed fruit[ currants , sultanas ,seedless raisins 4oz dates [chopped] 4oz mixed peel 4oz walnuts or blanched almonds 4oz aproict [dried] cut into small pieces and finally 2tablespoons brandy or sherry put on gas mark 1 for 6 hrs hazelx

Hazel I made 2 one for me and one for a friend a week ago, never again especially as it was my first attempt. Luckily they look lovely (not sure about taste yet!) I actually fed them their first 2 tbsp of brandy on Friday and plan on feeding them every other week until Christmas. Christmas fruit cake you cant get where I am hence making one for my family and my friends (she is a Brit married to an American who is in Afghanistan and wont be here for Christmas- her parents are over for the holidays hence I thought I would make her family one!). hi Debs, if you feed them brandy until xmas you'll all be drunk i put in 2 tablespoons of brandy in the mixture then i add a another 2 table spoons before i mazipan it and you can taste the brandy then i wouldn't put anymore than 6 tablespoons in, but that is my perfeance you may like more . hazelx

same here roger, but i didnt have a smaller cake tin so an 8inch it was it will still get eaten though hazelx
