Hiya i think raining cats and dogs comes from the time they had thatch rooves!! cats used to lay among the thatch and when it rained the cats came down with the roof!!

I think straight as a die (more usually called a dice by most people, although dice is the plural of die) means has no bias, to make it fall in a particular direction. So you get a purely random throw. Hence someone who is straight as a die does not have hidden agendas, is not devious. Jay

i didnt think this was regional but once said to OH 'why you got your arse in your hand now,' it made him laugh, he said 'what are you on about, i never heard that before,' i were refering to the fact he was sulking again
