WW2 Deaths Registration??

If a person was killed in action overseas during the war, in this case RAF bombing actions over Germany, are their deaths officially registered anywhere, as in the normal BMD registrations?

My uncle was killed in WW2 overseas and his death was found on what used to be 1837(.)com but now renamed findmypast(.)com http://www.findmypast(.)com/BirthsMarriagesDeaths.jsp remove brackets

Dont know where they are registered but I always look first on commonwealth wargraves commision site.

Keith, I have the death certificate for my great-uncle who was killed in May 1918, in Ploegsteert, Belgium.
