Like Gwyn, I used to do the Christmas post when I was a student. It was a real laugh at our sorting office, we had loads of fun and lots of tips as well. Except for when I got 'attacked' by a Great Dane. It came charging towards me and put both its paws on my shoulders - making it taller than me. Then it thoroughly licked me. It was only afterwards I realised how lucky I was, it could have been very nasty. Gwynne |

Love the Grape crusher one Heather-My kind of job too.lol. I have done strawberry picking in Norfolk in my student days and that was back breaking-awful-.lasted 2 days, then a bunch of us met up with this guy who owned a sports centre and a speed boat.lol. And we went partying instead. I have picked Olives in Italy too-that was good, but I kept eating them and getting told off. Not sure what I would do now? Maybe santa's helper in the grotto!!!!! Seeing all the kids smiling faces. Esp in a hospital... |

£13 just for sitting outside a shop- that's not a bad rate. As a student in the 60s, I worked several years as a Christmas post temp. 1 year was on parcels, - it was in the days when removal lorries were used and 2 temps and a postman sorted and delivered from the back of it. As the sacks were tipped out on the floor, the postie warned us about one particular bag as he knew that there was an annual Christmas gift inside. Sure enough, amongst the parcels and neatly wrapped packages there was a non-wrapped one with just a parcel address label tied to it....... a dead rabbit. Seemingly, the sender put one in the post each year, as a gift for someone on our round. Health and safety rules wouldn't allow that now, thank goodness. The next year and for several more, I heaved a heavy sack of mail around on my own postal round. Back at the sorting office it was great to meet up with friends from school days, who were also trying to stretch their student wages. Gwyn |

I did a summer play scheme a ew years ag ang gor abut £5.50 hrly for sitting on a bouncy castle, going swimming, painting and playing football all day. would love to do it again. Draw the line at shop work as I'm not a people person, so christmas sales assistent is out of the question. |
