I am very annoyed to find that a couple of my contacts with whom I share only a slight blood relationship have not just looked at my tree to compare & copy the relatives we share but have copied my tree wholesale. No way are they related to my ancestors on my Mother's AND my Father's side going back to the 17th century. I console myself by thinking they must have really sad lives if they are that desperate. Shouldn't we have some sort of ethical code on this? What do others think? Could we just let people see the relevant part of our genesreunited trees? Patricia |

Hi Patricia There have been many threads on this subject resulting in some people being unwilling to grant access their trees. Once you've given access to your tree you lose control of the information and you may find your information added to other websites without your permission. It isn't possible on GR to give access to only part of your tree....it's all or nothing, I'm afraid. Heather |

I know you take that risk when letting others see your tree though it doesn't paticulally bother me I can't see the sense in it I only use other peoples tree for ref and try to double check everything anyway. It just gives me that bit more info I need to put me on the right track Germaine x |

Having given access, you risk having all the info copied.........a way to reduce the risk is to cancel the access after (say).24 hrs, thus reducing the amount of time available for copying......... Reg |

i only have names and circa dates on my tree for that reason, if i want to share more with someone i arrange to email them a gedcom of the relevant bit of my tree, it is a shame that you have had a bad experience. I think you are right GR should make it possible to only share parts of trees with contacts. |
