Hi, it's been a while since I was there, I lived in the south and middle of the country in 1982-3, and have since visited 1986, i stilll belong to a Colombian web group and many of the members are still there as well as ex-pat. As with all S.American countries there are problems with the cartels that push drugs and with terrorist groups such as M19, BUT it is a beautiful country and the people are lovely, friendly folk, there's loads to do and see, and I'm sure your relative wouldn't take you to any of the troubled parts. The language is Spanish, currency pesetas, public buses are well, different!!! ) not so much the city buses though, the country buses are the ones to experience. Christmas time is lovely and the weather can be pretty hot. the kids are old enough to thoroughly enjoy themselves---tell him NOT to venture out without his relative, and especially the kids, keep together to the better and more populated areas. In bogota they've places like the 'museo de oro' to see, where all the ancient gold figures and jewellery is, not far from bogota is 'la catedral de sal' a cathedral carved into a cave which used to be a salt mine. How I envy them going, do they need someone to valet for them? Carol

Hello , this might seem a silly question, but my brothers SIL lives there with her husband and they have invited him and the kids over for xmas with them (( his wife died of cancer)) so i said i would ask here if anyone knew what it was like there, so he could decide if he fancied it or not. Thanks Rich.
