We went to Beamish on our last visit to England. My brother-in-law and his family took us there for the day. We loved every minute of it. We have a similar thing here in Australia called Sovereign Hill. It is in Ballarat Victoria in the heart of the goldfields. It's very authentic. Susan |

Lynn We visited the Black Country Museum last December- a beautiful mild day, with carols playing from the church just adding to the atmosphere. Another great day out. Gwyn |

I love visiting these sort of places. We really enjoyed our visit a few years ago. The opencast mine was interesting too. Great seeing the oldfashioned shops too. In August we visited the Museum of Welsh Life on the western side of Cardiff at St. Fagans. It's fascinating seeing the old miners cottages and all the other many buildings rescued from various parts of Wales, - they even have a prefab there now too. It was a great day out and we still didn't see it all - and a big surprise was to find it had FREE entry now. Gwyn |

There's also a place very similar near Belfast which is well worth a visit, can't think what it's called but it was brilliant--you need walking legs for there though!!! |

It's amazing isn't it! When I lived up in the North East I was a 'Friend of Beamish' and spent most of my sparevtime there. Sadly, I haven't been for a few years now and I would image there have been some changes!! Must go again next time I go North..... |

Took the kids to Beamish today and I think I got the most out of it!!! The little row of cottages came from Francis street at Hetton and my GG's lived very close, it was fascinating--I could almost see them--it was so weird gettting that glimpse into their lives an thinking maybe they had friends that may have lived in Francis street---of course OH and sprogs say that all this just confirms how weird I am!!!! :-) |
