completely forgot how to do it and its running very slow and freezing up. checked for viruses- none. mind has gone blank, please help but keep it simple, thanks in advance. debs |

Go to start, programs, accessories, system tools, defragment. I'd advise you do a disk cleanup first though. It's usually the temp files that slow things down. |

thanks for that came back to me then, been in shop that many times just lately due to kids wrecking it so i not done it myself for a while. here goes and see what happens, i got my laptop so if it takes all night at least kids might get early night. thanks for that.... |

De-fragging your disk will not necessarily speed up your computer. for internet browsing. It is only relevant if you regularly handle large amounts of data files and you find that opening files takes an age. Have a look at Judy's tips. In particular clear out your internet cache and temp files. Make sure you anti virus and adware is up to date. |

My maintenance routine is usually as follows. Oh's settings, run adaware, spybot and disk cleanup. Change to my settings, run adaware, run antivirus, do disk cleanup then defrag. (updating everything first of course) If IE itself is still running slow, I clean cookies too. Shut down, power off, then start up as normal. |
